In the workshop, we would like to present the EU Youth Dialogue and its opportunities for participation and discuss together how it can be made accessible to young people from all youth welfare structures and what is still needed for its inclusive further development.
The phenomenon of the increasing restriction of civil society freedom, known as ‘shrinking spaces’, has now taken on drastic dimensions. Youth councils and youth organisations, which play an important role in political and social development as actors in civil society, are particularly affected. They are increasingly under pressure, whether through restrictive legislation, financial cuts or direct or indirect interventions in their work.
The workshop will provide an overview of developments in Germany and Europe in order to derive insights and strategies for Germany from the experiences of European youth organisations. The aim is to develop approaches for action from the common challenges. The focus here is on securing the participation of young people in Europe in the long term, even under the challenges described. Without strong youth organisations such as youth associations and youth councils, effective participation at European level is inconceivable.
The EU Youth Dialogue invites you to the workshop. It is the central youth participation instrument of the European Union and enables young people to participate in politics in Germany and Europe. The Youth Dialogue organises dialogues between young people and decision-makers from politics and administration. The 11th cycle has been running since January 2025 with a focus on the youth objective ‘Bringing the EU together with young people’.
